     WHAT IS KIWANIS

Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization for people desiring personal                             involvement in the leadership and improvement of their communities. As a group,                              they can achieve what individuals cannot do alone.

Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

These people belong to Kiwanis Clubs located in towns and cities throughout the                                 world. They attend regularly scheduled meetings for fellowship and inspiration.                                     They perform voluntary community service through committees... usually after hours.

Kiwanis is a service organization, not a social club.                                                                  Kiwanis is often a public forum.. .never a political circle.                                                           Kiwanis is known to its fellow citizens through the work it does. It is not a secret society.          Kiwanis is an exponent of good citizenship. It does not prescribe a way of life for others.         Kiwanis directs its efforts to fulfilling the needs of the individual community.

WHAT DOES KIWANIS DO?

It performs local community service such as assistance to youth and the aging,  conservation of natural resources, development of community facilities, and creation of international understanding and goodwill;   in short, it makes life more pleasant and more rewarding for mankind.

THE OBJECTS OF KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL

To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.                          To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.                                       To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.  To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.       To provide, through Kiwanis Clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships;                         To render altruistic service, and to build better communities.                                                            To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high  idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism,  and goodwill.

                                THE MOTTO: "WE BUILD!"

THE PURPOSE: Service to Youth and the Elderly, to Community and Nation.                             THE NAME: The name "Kiwanis’ stems from an Native American phrase which, roughly        translated, means "to express one’s self’.
